About Brad Schmitz

Brad is the visionary behind Alaska English Adventures (AEA), Alaska’s only language immersion adventure tour company, where language education meets the wonders of Alaskan wilderness.

Raised in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Brad grew up with a deep appreciation for nature and community, shaped by his time exploring the mountains, rivers, and lakes of the Pacific Northwest. This connection to nature, combined with his background in community organizing and events, laid the groundwork for his life’s work in fostering global connections.

Since moving to Alaska in 2000, Brad has dedicated himself to bringing people together through tourism, education, and human services across nations. . His extensive experience teaching English as a Second Language includes five years abroad in South Korea and Australia, as well as roles across the U.S., working with students from diverse backgrounds, including South Korea, Iraq, Bosnia, Mexico, and more.

When Covid-19 halted tourism in March 2020, Brad adapted AEA’s mission by creating an international pen-pal program. What began with a class in Germany and the Boys and Girls Club in Seward quickly expanded, connecting students across 25 countries and multiple Alaskan communities. Through these cross-continental friendships, young learners have shared experiences, developed language skills, and built lasting bonds.

Through his pen-pal initiative, Brad is now bringing his multicultural experience to life, facilitating cross-cultural friendships that span continents. His work with Kenyan students through the Iditarod project highlights his mission to create lasting connections, bridging communities in Alaska and Kenya through connection, culture, and the shared love of building education for better futures.

Brad was inspired to create an opportunity for these young Kenyans to experience Alaska’s most notorious event, offering them a once-in-a-lifetime cultural exchange that deepens their learning and broadens their cultural horizons.

Brad’s mission is clear: to connect people across borders, fostering global friendships and cultural appreciation through unique educational experiences. Join him in supporting the Sheba Education Center students as they bring the spirit of Kenya to Alaska’s Iditarod in 2025.
